Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is LSC refund policy?

Missed Sessions: There are no make-up sessions, ice credits, or refunds offered for missed sessions. It is expected that skaters may miss occasional sessions (e.g., due to illness, vacation, minor aches and pains), and this is reflected in the fees.

Refunds: Skate Canada fees (your insurance) are non-refundable. All refunds will be issued as ice credits except for certain medical situations. Refund requests must meet specific conditions and be accompanied by a doctor's note. A $25 administration fee applies.

Is CanSkate different from the local rec/arena programs?

Yes, CanSkate is the only Nationally Recognized Learn to Skate Program. Developed by professionals, it teaches skating fundamentals for all ice sports, with badges and certificates awarded for skill achievements. Certified coaches ensure structured learning with fun activities like themed days and parties.

What kind of skates should I buy?

Good skates are essential for comfort and safety. Skaters should have their own skates, fitted by a skate shop or qualified dealer. Leather boots with firm ankle support are ideal. Molded boots are often too stiff. Avoid oversized skates intended for future growth as fit is crucial.

Skate Care: Sharpen blades every 20-30 hours of skating. Keep blades clean and rust-free, and always use skate guards when off the ice. Remove skate guards during storage to prevent rusting.

Skate Shops

  • Cyclone Taylor: 1005 W. 49th Ave Vancouver, BC (604) 264-9261
  • Skaters Edge Skate Shop: 10-145 Schoolhouse Street Coquitlam, BC (604) 521-5550

CanSkate Lesson Clothing

Clothing should keep skaters warm but allow for movement. Avoid baggy clothing for safety reasons. Layers are recommended, and snow pants or ski suits are ideal for beginners. Ensure clothing has no hanging parts that could get caught on blades.

What Happens After CanSkate?

The Junior Stars Academy Program introduces developmental figure skating for skaters aged 9 and younger. It includes team coaching, jump technique, spins, off-ice training, and more in a fun atmosphere.

The Junior Academy Program bridges CanSkate and Skate Canada’s StarSkate Program. Skaters can complete all levels of the program or transfer midway to StarSkate. Participation is by invitation only.
